Beer Steins
Beer Steins, though not common these days, are synonymous with beer and Germany. Steins feature a mug, traditionally made from metals, silver, stone or clay, with a lid or an open top. Whilst you may not be able to see your beer with a stein they are traditionally decorated heavily, even modern steins usually feature art or some sort of intricate design.
Beer steins with a lid usually have a lever which can be operated by the thump to open and close the lid, This was to eliminate the need for two hands while drinking. The lid was invented during the 1400s because Europe was suffering from a number of plagues and insect swarms.
While you probably won’t get served beer in a stein at most pubs, they are a popular gift idea, and can usually been seen around beer centered festivals – such as Oktoberfest. Beer steins are also collected by some, due to their often unique and intricate design and craftsmanship.
